Correcting an Underbite
The parents of this young lady noticed when she was 6 years old that she had a pronounced underbite, leaving her self conscious and unwilling to smile. They had spoken to an orthodontist previously who told them the only option was to wait until she was done growing and have jaw surgery to correct her problem. Her parents saw us for a second opinion and felt it would be best to at least try something now. We were able to retrain her bite with a functional appliance to help reposition her lower jaw back as far as comfortably possible. We then used braces on the upper and lower to reposition her upper teeth in front of her lower teeth. She is still stable in a normal bite 1 year after finishing her braces. Her inner beauty is beginning to show more now that she loves to smile.
